Outreach Services and Bookmobile

Outreach Services

Lobby Stop Service – The senior citizen and day care centers of Aurora are served by the Outreach Services Department through the Lobby Stop Service with our Mini-Bookmobile (Mini-B). Weekly van service is provided to senior citizens and preschool students at the following locations: area nursing homes, assisted living centers, senior residential facilities and day care centers.

Homebound Service – A free home delivery service of library materials is available to those who reside inside the city limits of Aurora and who are unable to come to the library or the Bookmobile. If you or a member of your family is confined by an illness, injury or physical handicap for a period of at least six weeks, you are eligible for this service.

Materials will be selected to match your interests and special requests can be made for books and audiobooks. If you do not have a current Aurora Public Library card, an application can be brought to you on the initial visit.

Senior Programming – Conducted at area nursing homes and assisted living centers, Outreach Services Department staff members provide a themed program on subjects of interest to seniors. Interactive activities are initiated and books and other materials are shared. The intent is to stimulate discussion among the residents to keep their minds active through reading and programming. We call these “Short Talks.”

Deposit Collections – Collection of large print books and audio books delivered monthly to nursing homes that are checked out to the facility for their residents’ use. Contact the Outreach Services Department if you are interested in setting up a Deposit Collection at your facility.

Bookmobile

The Bookmobile is the library’s rolling location. It visits schools, parks, retirement homes and Aurora’s Farmers Market, bringing popular books, magazines, audiobooks and DVDs to customers all over the city. The Bookmobile offers summertime stories in the park, takeaway crafts and more. It also visits special events and drives in the City of Aurora’s Memorial Day and Fourth of July parades. Call 630-723-2705 for more information.

Special Events – The Bookmobile is available for special events such as Aurora Public Library program events, parades, citywide festivals, school literacy events, block parties and other community events. At these special events, Bookmobile staff members are proud to represent and promote library service, the love of reading and the entire Aurora Public Library.

Traveling Storytime & Stories in
the Park
– The Outreach Services Department offers Traveling Storytime Service to area day care centers, Panera Bread Café or by request. The Bookmobile Services Assistant brings stories, songs, finger plays and puppets to preschool children. During the summer months, Stories in the Park is held at park locations where we have Bookmobile stops.
